Red squirrels are always a favourite with my clients and play a part in every winter workshop I run. Watching them bound across the ground, jump through the trees, chasing one another, and sitting eating nuts is so joyful. Personally, I never ever get sick of hanging out with them.
Autumn was late to arrive in the Scottish Highlands this year but once it did the colours were stunning and the wildlife fantastic, as always!
Watching red squirrels is good for the soul! I’ve therefore introduced a 3 day residential workshop to photograph these wonderful creatures in a couple of very different locations in the Scottish Highlands. Join me, Karen Miller, a professional wildlife photographer and red squirrel expert for three fantastic days in the company of the squirrels.
It was great to spend a week in Perthshire in July where not only did I conduct a workshop but also visited a wonderful photography hide as well as seeing mountain hares, osprey, marsh harrier and much much more.
It’s been a crazy couple of months weather-wise but the wildlife is still out and about to enjoy.
As lockdown continues in the Scottish Highlands I’ve been sticking to my local patch photographing and filming the amazing wildlife on my doorstep.
These last couple of weeks have been a dream come true for me as I’ve welcomed four red squirrels to my garden in the Scottish Highlands.
Now autumn has arrived in the Scottish Highlands I’m enjoying watching my red squirrel family amongst the golds and oranges of the season.
Finding a community of red squirrels in woods five minutes from my house has been a dream come true. It’s been wonderful and educational to watch and photograph them every day.
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing red squirrels at a number of locations through out Scotland, so here’s a list of my recommendations and tips for photographing these wonderful little animals.
